Sanctity of Life Constitutional Amendment Introduced
|
|
Thomas Jefferson stated, “God who gives us life, gives us
liberty.” These eight words reflect an important belief that our
founding fathers so strongly held to. God has endowed us
with rights that cannot be taken away. His statement also
reflects the idea, also stated in the Declaration of
Independence, that our rights are not all equal, but they have a
precedence. Life is the greatest right that God has bestowed
upon man. It is the top of the list of enumerated rights in our
Declaration, followed by liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Accordingly, the Declaration states that the purpose of
government is to protect the rights given to man, by God.
Therefore, it is the ultimate responsibility of civil government
to enact laws and policies to protect innocent life above all
other rights and liberties. It is for this reason that I have
introduced SR 153, an amendment to the Georgia Constitution, that
will formally define a 'person,' and establish the Constitutional
foundation to protect their rights.
This amendment will define that a 'person' is any human being at
any stage of biological development. Once adopted, Georgia will
have answered the question that has been at the heart of the pro
life issue for decades, 'when does life begin?' In Georgia, we
will have stated that, life begins at conception.

Senate Bill Forbids Sharia and International Law in
Georgia
|
|
There has been a movement in some courts to impose
judgments based on foreign or religious law. Some of
these cases have resulted in a violation of Constitutional
Rights of the individual, especially if the court was
using foreign law to justify an outcome that couldn’t be
reached through the application of federal or state
law. To protect Georgian's basic Constitutional rights
from this potential abuse, I have joined with Senator
Judson Hill (R-Marietta) in co-sponsoring Senate Bill 57.
This legislation will protect Georgians from the
application of foreign laws, if it will result in the
violation of a right guaranteed by the Constitution of
the United States.

Senate Bill 98 Expands Concealed Carry
With the recently reported acts of deadly violence taken against
elected officials and innocent citizens attending political
events and meetings, it is becoming increasingly important that
our laws do not prohibit citizens from protecting themselves.
Senate Bill 98 changes the current Georgia firearms laws to
expand the number of locations in which a person who has a valid
concealed carry license may carry a firearm. Under the
provisions of this legislation, anyone who possesses a Georgia
weapons carry license will be authorized to carry their firearm
anywhere in this state other than, courthouses, prisons,
jails detention centers or nuclear power plants.
Georgia Land Sovereignty Protection Act
The downturn in Georgia’s economy has been hard on just
about everyone in the state; however, many developers
have been especially hurt by the real estate market and
are left paying taxes on large tracts of land. Many of
these landowners are in jeopardy of losing these land
holdings to foreclosure or for nonpayment of property
taxes. Some developers have come up with a unique but
very dangerous scheme to off-load the their property,
releasing their financial liability.
Some developers are considering transferring their
property to a sovereign nation, which would then operate
businesses wholly owned by that nation on the property.
Certain American Indian tribes are recognized as
independent sovereign nations, and any land which they
own is not subject to the state or federal laws. Senate Bill 62 would prohibit
any land within the boundaries of the state of Georgia
from being operated by a foreign or sovereign nation. A
foreign nation may purchase and own property within the
state, but that property would be under the sovereignty
of the state and subjected to our laws and also responsible
for paying applicable taxes. Many Indian nations have
acquired land in other states and opened casinos and other
businesses. These lands become recognized by the federal
government as foreign nations, on our own soil. This bill
would protect our sovereignty, and would not allow any
domestic or foreign nation from establishing homeland
sovereignty within our borders.
